Over three years ago Quantic Dream´s showcased a technical PS3 demo of the female android called “Kara“ (this was back in March 2012). Well, the demo was really impressing. And David Cage (founder of Quantic Dream, creator of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls) received a lot of positive feedback as well. However, we never got to know whatever happened to Kara. Until now that is, because during Sony’s Paris Games Week presentation Cage announced Quantic Dream’s new game project “Detroit: Become Human”(a title which Kara just happens to be the star and main character of).
Not only that, Cage also let the world know that the game is going to be a PS4 exclusive title. As for the plot and background story of “Detroit”, the game takes place in a futuristic cyberpunk version of Detroit (US). And by the looks and outcome of the video, the humans have started to hate the androids (Armitage III anyone?). In short, people have started to take out their frustration and hate on the androids (I bet that it´s wage, job and “the human nature Vs androids” related). And this is something which Kara (and the players) will see, hear and experience in the world of Detroit.
So I guess that “Detroit: Become Human” is meant to show the ugly and darksides of humanity (set in a hard, cold and futuristic environment in the city of Detroit), while Kara will have a similar role to the one that Lilo played in the movie “The fifth element” (innocent, caring and full of love and hope). I don´t know about you, but based on the title of the game (“Become Human”) and the trailer. It seems like Quantic Dream is trying to send out the message that androids could become more human than “real” humans (minus the flaws, hate, anger, jealousy, envy and so on).
Anyhow, I have to say that the trailer made me both curious and interested in “Detroit: Become Human” (just the in-game engine alone got me really excited and worked up). And “hopefully” the game won´t become anything like “Beyond: Two Souls” (as quite a lot of fans were disappointed and unimpressed with the game). Time will tell for sure. Nevertheless, “Detroit: Become Human” has already made a huge impact on the Gaming community (over 300,000 people have already watched the Youtube trailer since yesterday). And the Games media is all over the game as well.
