I think it´s rather safe to say that From Software´s “Dark Souls” series is pretty darn hardcore. I actually tried “Dark Souls 2” for the very first time last night. And, well, i died A LOT. But that´s what “Dark Souls” is all about, that hardcore gameplay experience (kind of like Ninja Gaiden 1 for the NES). But i can´t say that i´ve played any games that looks (and feels) like a 2D side-scrolling/arcade action version of “Dark Souls” before.
Well, say hello to No pest productions “A Bastard’s Tale“! (for Windows and Linux). I heard about the game this morning, so i checked it out just now. And the game looks pretty darn cool imo. So i bet that “A Bastard´s Tale” (which btw is made in GameMaker Studios) will get greenlit on Steam Greenlight in no time!

“A bastards tale” made me think about the a 2D side-scrolling arcade action version of “Dark Souls”.
And guess what? “A Bastard´s Tale” is set for a release in July this summer. So we will be chopping off heads and limbs in the near future 😉
About A Bastard’s Tale:
Have you ever played a game where you wished you could position your sword in the right angle to deflect an enemy’s sword strike? That was the starting point in the creation of A B@stard’s Tale
The focus of the game is a fun and challenging sword fighting with varied enemies. The uniqueness of the game comes from 3 different blocking angles as well as 3 different attack angles. The player has to constantly watch the adversaries to know how to block and when to attack. Furthermore, the game has slower paced attacks that cannot be canceled out which forces the player to be strategic. First and foremost, I hope you find it to be fun and challenging.
Features:
– A very challenging game
– 5 levels with over 15 unique enemies to conquer
– A story mode
– An Endless Fighter Mode
– New Game and New Game plus in story mode
– Controller support
– Customizable keyboard controls
