I´m aware of the fact that there are plenty of mods and Wad´s available for ID Software´s old-school FPS “Doom” series. Even so, I still got rather surprised to see a full-blown FPS Doom/Contra hybrid earlier today. Especially since I haven´t seen anything quite like it before. Nevertheless, Beed28´s “Contra Doom” is the real deal. And it´s one of the funniest Contra spin-offs that I´ve ever played, and you can download and play “Contra Doom” for free!. That´s great indeed of course. However, I should add that most of the stages and gameplay elements have been replicated from “Contra III: The Alien Wars“. So that means that there will be a lot of fast-paced and action intense urban city moments.

“Contra Doom” has taken the run-and-gun FPS genre to the next level.

That´s just the half of it though, because what´s even cooler is that you can get your hands-on authentic power ups in “Contra Doom”. Furthermore, there is also an in-game high score counter to be found within the game. And that adds an extra level of coolness to “Contra Doom” for sure. So, in my opinion. Bee28´s description of his mod creation is pretty spot on:

“Contra Doom aims to replicate the gameplay of Contra, particularly Contra III: The Alien Wars, including the ability to hold two weapons at a time, one hit deaths, and scoring points. While Contra III is best represented here, some elements from other games are taken, such as Super Contra (Arcade), Contra: Hard Corps, and Contra 4. The Ultimate Doom, Doom II, TNT: Evilution, Plutonia Experiment, and Heretic IWADS are currently supported.” – Beed28, the creator of “Contra Doom”

When Contra goes FPS, “Contra Doom” happens!

Better yet, less than one hour ago I saw a really good “Contra Doom” video by Vladimir Zelentsov. And not only that, in the video Zelentsov played his Contra NES Metal cover while rolling in-game footage from “Contra Doom”. So if you´re still not sure if this is your kind of game or not, then I would recommend you to check out Vladimir´s video down below! Personally, I´m really glad that I found out about this Doom/contra mod. As the good news really made my day.
