There are plenty of Mmorpg games on the market right now, so the competition is really hard for those who try to break into that genre. However, most Mmorpg´s are fantasy themed Mmo´s. So I got quite curious when I heard about PGenom´s (it´s a Russian indie studio) “Project Genom” (for Windows and MAC), as the game is a Sci-Fi Mmorpg shooter (and a really interesting and good-looking one too). And by the looks of “Project Genom” (the game offers stunning graphics with the help of Unreal Engine 4), I would say that the game is like a mix of “Mass Effect” (the character designs), “Destiny” (the intense battles), “Unreal Tournament” (the vehicles) and “DeadSpace” (the space ships and space environment feeling). That´s just the half of it though, because in “Project Genom” you will  participate in the battle for the survival of humankind And why is that? Well, it´s because  in “Project Genom” the humans has destroyed their own planet (surprise, surprise). So they were forced to find a new life on a planet called Avalon.

project genom mechas

Yep, there are gigant mecha robots in “Project Genom”.

That´s great news for the human race of course. However, the humans are not alone on Avalon (thus the part about the “battles”). So you (the player) will have to defend the human race from the alien threat, or else humanity will face extinction. No need to panic though, as the humans have quite a lot of skills, weapons and vehicles at their disposal. Good thing that, as you´re going to need all the help you can get to survive in the world of “Project Genom”. Personally, I got really interested in the mecha robots (as I´m a huge fan of mechas). And there seems to exist quite a few mechas (and other vehicles for that matter) in “Project Genom”.

project genom

“Project Genom” offers some really impressive graphics and animations (Unreal Engine 4 has done wonders to the games looks for sure).

So I´m actually having serious thoughts about giving the early access version of Project Genom a fair chance. And it seems like I´m not the only one that´s having thoughts about doing that either. In fact, “Project Genom” got greenlit on Steam Greenlight just recently. Nice indeed, but what about features and gameplay videos then? Well, I´m glad that you asked. You will find the full features list and the latest gameplay video down below:

Game features:
– Non-target combat system – you aim and you shoot. Skill over boring mashing of the same abilities.
– Special equipment – get into exoskeletons and mechs, wield a huge mechanical sword or even mutate your character with the DNA extracted from alien wildlife.
– Spaceship and interplanetary travel – The worlds of Mass Effect, Destiny and DeadSpace have greatly influenced and inspired our game’s features. Build an entire spaceship of your own, hire a crew and begin to explore uncharted parts of space at your own peril or use it as air support in particularly challenging battles.
– Increase skills through their use – the more you use an ability or a weapon, the higher its skill rises, similarly to the Elder Scrolls series and the old Ultima games.
– Dynamic world – insectoid creatures grow and spread their nests in real-time, effectively altering the world if you don’t deal with them quickly enough.
Means of transportation – If you manage to get your hands on one, you can ride quad bikes, gliders, buggies or other mounts to move around the planets and get things done.
– Crafting – a rich crafting system that doesn’t become useless once you reach the end game content. Create weapons and trinkets, engineer mounts and exoskeletons using whatever alloys you desire. With the same blueprint you can build a gun from gold or from wolfram, from steel or titanium. Some materials just look fancy, others carry with them practical pros and cons.
– Resource procurement – install drilling towers and mining facilities to extract the very essence of alien planets – their previously undiscovered substances and materials. Use them for various activities in the game, be it crafting, summoning bosses, enhancing items or developing trade terminals.
– PvP arenas – arenas will give players a chance to discover who is the strongest.
– Personal cabin – players will have a chance to buy and work on their own private space.

I don´t know why, but this picture made me think about “Mass Effect”.

So what do you think about PGenom´s Sci-fi MMORPG shooter “Project Genom” so far? And will you try the early access version of the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
