The very first space game that i played back in the days was Toys for Bob´s “Star Control” (released back in 1990). But that game made me hooked up on space games for all time (it was mainly also because of my newfound interest for “Star Trek”).
But a lot has happened with the space genre since i played “Star Control 1”. Nowadays you can create pretty much whatever you want, and there´s so many good graphic engines to choose from as well (free and “pay-to-use” one´s).
Such as Unity 3D for example, which Noyer Studios has used for their upcoming space strategy/exploration/sandbox game “Project Tarvotan“.
And even though there´s quite a few space sandbox games out there (plus the one´s that´s in the making). “Project Tarvotan” still stands out from the crowd.
You don´t have to take my word on it though. Just watch the trailer and visit the games Steam Greenlight page instead!
About Project Tarvotan:
You are the captain of the SSC Tarvotan, a small-scale exploration spacecraft created with bleeding edge technology. Our home solar system has fallen out of balance, and humanity’s only chance of surviving is on the SSC Tarvotan.
In order to escape the ongoing dangers, you must search and balance resources to remain one step ahead of your ultimate demise. Planets are burning by the hour… can you escape the Milky Way to explore several other sectors of our universe? Can you survive until the end? Project Tarvotan – “G1” is a straightforward space strategy game and is heavily inspired by games such as FTL and Universe Sandbox.
