It seems like this is going to be the week of shoot-em-up games for us. You see, just when I published our Nintendo Switch review for “1917: The Alien Invasion“, we were contacted by Fantastico Studio who informed us that their upcoming fast-paced roguelike shmup “Black Paradox“ is coming to Steam early access July 27th (Fantastico Studio is the same indie game developer who’s working on the challenging 2D platformer “Landflix Odyssey“).
Anyways, I think you get the idea. So here’s what Federico from Fantastico Studio told us:
“Hi, this is Federico, an indie game developer from Fantastico Studio. I’m writing you about the new game me and my team are developing, Black Paradox. Black Paradox is a fast paced Roguelike-Shoot ’em up with lots of weapons, powerups, enemies and 7 deadly bosses! We’ve recently released a free demo and are about to launch an early access on Steam (next July 27).After the Early access period is over we’re gonna land the game on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4!” – Federico, Fantastico Studio
That’s right, “Black Paradox” (you can download and play the demo via Gamejolt) is coming to Steam early access this Friday =) (the game is also coming to PS4, Xbox One and Switch). So, what is “Black Paradox” all about then? Well, here’s what’s known about the game so far:
“Fight criminals, bend space, time travel, save the universe! This is BLACK PARADOX! The game is a fast paced rogue-like shoot ’em up game with amazing pixel art and a Synth-Wave soundtrack. Play as Black Paradox, a fierce bounty hunter, and defeat the biggest criminal organization in space, The Hellraisers, and its 7 leaders! Black Paradox is a mix of old school shoot ‘em up elements and roguelike mechanics. The 7 levels are full of random generated enemy waves and hazards, creating an hardcore and fun experience.
Each level will feature its own boss, each with different and unique attack patterns. The more you advance in the game, the more the bosses will start to attack using “bullet hell” like patterns. Also, as you progress through the levels you’ll be able to collect many different weapons and power-ups to make each run unique! This is still not enough to complete all the levels of the game, but don’t worry!
The game also features a growth system based on chips for your spaceship, to make it strong enough to finally beat the game! Chips will both upgrade the ship’s base stats and give it special abilities, such as healing over time or the chance to also fire missiles when shooting with your weapon. Obviously, as in any good shoot ’em up the player can also use a special power, the Black Paradox from which he gets his name, which grants him the ability to overlap realities and call another Black Paradox from another dimension to help out.”
I don’t know about you, but I like the sound of that. As for features, these are the said launch features for “Black Paradox”:
Features:
– 18 deadly weapons!
– 17 handy power-ups!
– 11 deadly drones, little helpers that pack a lot of punch!
– A space bending ultimate move, the “Black Paradox”, so powerful that the main character got his name from it.
– 50+ different enemies all with its own attack patterns!
– 7 deadly bosses with unique attacks.
– A growth system to give the player more powers while upgrading his stats.
– Integrated control support for all kinds of controllers!
– 2 player local co-op.
– Amazing pixel art.
– Original Synth-Wave soundtrack by the trio Inward, Hanzo & Randie
In other words, Fantastico Studio aims to give us a really awesome fast-paced roguelike shmup with “Black Paradox” =) And by the looks of the announcement trailer (you can watch the said trailer further down the page), Fantastico sure has something truly cool in the making.
So, are you guys and girls excited for the upcoming Steam release of “Black Paradox”? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
