Normally, I don´t care all that much about reality shows (as i don´t watch them). But then i heard about CBS reality show “The Briefcase.” Well, I’m not a big fan of shows that take advantage of poor, sick or weak people. All so that the already filthy rich folks can make some more money on other people’s misery. Well, that´s what CBS show “The Briefcase” is all about.
As every single family that´s a part of the “The Briefcase” show has gone through a lot. Poverty, sickness, depression, you name it. And CBS exploits this to the max by giving the families the sweet taste of hope (money), just so that they could tear down that little sense of hope bit by bit. And all of this is recorded in front of cameras and a watching audience.
It gets worse though. As all the struggling families will have to fight over not only the money ($101,000 per family), but with bad conscience as well. As every single family will be given the choice to either keep all the money or give all or part of it to another family in need. So no matter what the families do in “The Briefcase,” it will still become a tormenting kind of experience for everyone involved.
So no wonder why there are a lot of angry comments and rants about CBS reality show “The Briefcase” at the moment. Comments such as these:
“no no… just no… don’t make money from people’s pain and agony. no” – kingkingjustin
“Is this how we’re going to solve poverty and wealth inequity in the richest country in the world. This is exploitive and gross.” – Wayne Gibson
“Is this like a joke? This has to be a joke. How the hell did this even get approved? I’m sure the families get a little bit of money regardless just for being on the show, but this is exploitation at its finest and it’s just not right.” – TrentIsGroovy
The families are told they have to take the first $1,000 and spend it on themselves, which is basically a way of giving people who’ve been in dire straits for eons a fleeting taste of the kind of the financially carefree existence they’ll soon have to feel bad about wanting. From there on, the show does all it can to ensure the decision over the money is as guilt-ridden and uncomfortable as possible” – gal drimer
So what do you guys and girls think about CBS “The Briefcase”?
About The Briefcase:
CBS announces the new reality show The Briefcase, featuring hard-working American families experiencing financial setbacks who are presented with a briefcase containing a large sum of money and a potentially life-altering decision: they can keep all of the money for themselves, or give all or part of it to another family in need. “THE BRIEFCASE is an eye-opening look into what matters most in people’s lives, taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride with a shocking ending each week,” said THE BRIEFCASE Creator and Executive Producer Dave Broome.
“I’ve been incredibly impressed by just how generous Americans are, even with shrinking paychecks and rising debt, when there’s little left to give.” Each week, two families have 72 hours to learn details about each other’s challenging circumstances and make the weighty decision of what to do with $101,000. However, what they don’t know is that the family with whom they are considering sharing this financial windfall received an identical briefcase with the same instructions. Throughout their journeys, relationships within both families will be tested and beliefs questioned as they find out what really matters most in their lives, and how much importance they place on values such as love, generosity, compassion and faith.
