It took a while for the Cyberpunk genre to become popular again, but now there are no doubts (whatsoever) that the Cyberpunk genre is here to stay. As we got games (released or upcoming) such as Shadowrun, Dex, Invisible, Inc., Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Cyberpunk 2077, and series and movies such as Blade Runner 2 and Ghost In The Shell: Arise. So I got quite excited when I heard about Guy-Roger Duvert´s (Cassandra and Eyeborgs) upcoming Cyberpunk/Sci-fi movie “Virtual Revolution” (it´s a mix of tech noir, cyberpunk and Sci-fi), a movie that´s inspired by William Gibsons books, Blade Runner and the Matrix. However, it seems like “Virtual Revolution” will focus a whole lot more on virtual reality than any of those titles and creations.
Anyhow, Virtual Revolution takes place in Europe (Paris) around the year 2047, and the whole world is dominated by virtual reality. In fact, 75% of the population (most of them are poor, sick ect) spend all their time online, some don´t even care about reality anymore, then you got those who (a small minority) spend half their time being connected, and the other half awake in the real world (so-called “Hybrids“).
However, there is one more group that prefers to stay jacked out from the virtual reality world, and that´s the rich, famous and wealthy, since their living a really good life without any worries in the world (sounds kind of like today’s world, in my opinion), and this is where our hero Nash (his a Hybrid) gets into the picture. So what does Nash do for a living? Well, he works as a killer who gets paid by multinational companies to track down and kill terrorists who threaten the system.
I don´t know about you guys/girls, but I’m rather interested and curious about Virtual Revolution, and the indiegogo trailer sure made my day as well. So I really hope that Guy-Roger Duvert (and his team) will be able to reach the $100,000 goal line on time. Speaking of which, I will do a Q and A interview with mr Guy-Roger Duvert next week =)
