I´m more than aware of the fact that there have been quite a few scandals and corruption cases in the video games industry over the years. Even so, the last couple of days has been a really sad read if you´re a gamer. As the scandals just keep on stacking up on each other…However, in this particular OP post I´m solely going to focus on the doxxing scandal involving Ubisoft´s creative director at Blue Byte Palle Hoffstein:
And based on what I´ve seen so far, I think it´s safe to say that Hoffstein was indeed involved in a doxxing attempt against Best Mom Eva (aka “Mombot“, a Pro-GamerGate supporter). In the matter of fact, Hoffstein even seems to have admitted his own guilt on Twitter when he wrote “I know when I´ve been owned”. Good game, folks.“(unless someone has used a fake Twitter account in his name, and then hacked his Linkedin account only to link that account to the Tiwtter one). And Hoffstein made that statement shortly after that Best Mom Eva dropped the “Zachattack dox crew” picture via her Twitter account (as seen in the picture above, you can find more information about the #ZachAttack hashtag on Twitter). And what can I say really? I mean, besides the obvious fact that doxxing is very wrong. I also find it to be rather disturbing that a person of Hoffstein´s position would involve himself in a potential doxxing operation.

I wonder what went through Palle Hoffstein´s mind when he decided that it would be a good idea to dox Best Mom Eva?
And that also made me wonder where we should go from here? And what actions will Ubisoft take against Hoffstein? Because even though I´m not a fan of having people fired based on what they’re doing on their free time and in their private lives (within reasonable limits). I still think that it´s quite clear that doxxing is a pretty serious matter, especially if a whole group of people gang up on one single person (and that was the case with Best Mom Eva). And if I´m not wrong now, doxxing can even be considered as a crime in some parts of the world. As it could be a violation of the Data Protection Act (The UK), and it might also be a “A Legal Violation of Privacy” matter (The states).

Well, time will tell if Ubisoft intends to act upon this scandal, or if Ubisoft intend to ignore Hoffstein´s bad doings completely.
Even so, Best Mom Eva doesn’t want the doxxing scandal to affect Hoffstein´s job at Ubisoft. So only time will tell what will happen to Hoffstein (and the other´s who were a part of the Zachattack dox crew). Personally, I just want to have a clean (er) games industry where scandals and corruption should be kept at an absolute minimum. As I want to bring in fun, happiness and positivity into the industry again. Because that´s what games should be all about “having fun”, not political agendas, gender politics and so on.
And with that said. What´s your take on this matter? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
