Brianna Wu´s search for her biological parents
Most of the time in social media and Internet culture you can get away with anything you say. Most of the time. But recently I’ve seen a lot of things that the so-called “Godzilla of Feminists,” has said that I have to speak on. I’m talking about Brianna Wu, and I’m addressing her directly in this open rant.
Dear Brianna Wu
Recently YOU claim you were adopted and that #Gamergate has made it Impossible for you to post your info to find your birth parents. For many reasons which I will not get into, I’ll leave that alone–but I will still speak on why it’s false. Brianna, if you were determined to find your parents you could have dine so in free and public ways very easily don’t you agree?
Ancestry.com
County records aka. Birth certificate
Facebook.com
Your followers
Those are 4 very prominent examples of how you could, and still can contact your family, and even your extended family if you wanted. But you don’t. You just ran out of things to label misogynistic and sexist and decided and decided to fabricate that little story. Not cool at all. The worst part is, you deleted all the tweets talking about the subject. But, this is the Internet, and once you put something out, it’s not going away. Here are those same tweets again for all to see.
Harassment, threats and the Patreon dollars
If that wasn’t bad enough I’d like to ask you another question: Why do you use Patreon as a cash flow, and use false accusations to get accounts suspended? This comes after you claim the money is being used to pay someone who handles these harassment issues. You claim that you’re letting the FBI and Rep. Katherine Clark handle the investigations into your alleged online harassment. You also said that you would step away from social media, and not promote hate speech.
You haven’t done so at all on either side of this debate. In fact, you’ve delegated all of your old Twitter handles to whomever is directing them now, and have made personal attacks against other users using your primary now. When reported to @support and @safety no investigation is launched for unknown reasons. I know this for a fact because several of my sources have tested the theory and created ticket numbers with no responses from Twitter.
You also claim your Patreon supporters are the best because they up their pledges when you get a new death threat. Why? If you stayed off of social media, and concentrated on what you claim you needed the Patreon support for, you wouldn’t even see a threat or harassment.
You say that you NEED to get back to making video games, and we agree. You should try to create a fair and balanced game that reflects your views and those of your peers. We do need more diversity in games, and it takes someone with the capabilities to be a benchmark for that diversity–not just speak on it.
We also know that IF you created a police report you wouldn’t be ashamed to show the ticket number, or speak to an attorney openly about pursuing the mysterious caller who left you a voicemail you mocked openly amongst company. But that’s not adding fuel to the fire at all right? If the fire exists to begin with.
I’m not casting doubt, but I can say you’ve done a lot of questionable things on social media lately. Things that no victim of harassment would do–lest they feared more harassment. Lastly, you mimic and mock every aspect of pop culture you believe to be sexist, misogynistic and biased toward women. News flash, look at shows like the bachelorette, Oprah, or the view. Do you have an opinion about that?
People aren’t trashing you or any of your allegiances for the wrong reasons, we’re just curious what and who you’re actually fighting for. What drives you Brianna? Is it money, and attention? Or is it real equality for all people including the LGBT community? I ask because Caitlyn Jenner came to my city of San Diego Ca, and rallied for Transgendered youth as well as other LGBT movements. Where were you? On Twitter standing on your soapbox talking about the movie Pixels, and #Gamergate.
It’s time to leave 140 characters to the real issues Brianna. Let’s act our age not your shoe size. Fighting for equality begins at home, not on your phone talking about the Gaming world being “sexist,” and “seeking your attention.” Join others in their support of real world issues, if you don’t you’ll forever be associated with the wrong kind of feminism.
Sincerely yours, Kenay Peterson. The Gaming Ground
