Press release:
York, UK – 12th November 2025.
Revolution Software are today very delighted to announce that ‘Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged’, is now available for the Nintendo Switch 2. And this marks the arrival of the definitive edition of one of adventure gaming’s most iconic stories on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

Following acclaimed releases on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and – almost one year to the day – Nintendo Switch, Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged now shines brighter than ever in full native 4K (2160p) resolution in TV mode and Full HD (1080p) in tabletop mode and handheld mode, complete with enhanced mouse support for players who want to experience the adventure with precision and authenticity.

The Reforged edition of this award-winning 1996 adventure has been hailed as a masterful restoration of a timeless classic, revitalising play with hand-redrawn backgrounds based on the original line art, over 30,000 reanimated character sprites, and fully remastered audio, including the legendary score by the late great Barrington Pheloung.

Redefining adventure gameplay for a modern audience, Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged also introduces a dynamic ‘story mode’ that balances puzzles and narrative progression, making this the most accessible version to date; whether played docked in glorious 4K, or handheld in crisp, high-definition detail.

“It’s a thrill to see Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged make its way to Nintendo Switch 2,” says Charles Cecil, Founder and CEO of Revolution Software.

“The extra power of the new hardware lets the game truly shine – I think the 4K visuals are genuinely breathtaking and, with full mouse support, this is arguably the most faithful way to experience this reforged version of George and Nico’s first adventure”.

Known for combining scripts laced with sharp wit and logical but challenging puzzles, Broken Sword is a celebrated franchise within the adventure genre, having first released on PC and PlayStation back in 1996. Already acclaimed on Nintendo Switch with a Metacritic score of 84, the game now takes full advantage of Switch 2’s power to deliver the definitive Reforged experience.

Broken Sword remains one of the genre’s most acclaimed series, featuring in top adventure game lists to this day.

In Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged, you can:

Step out onto the streets of Paris as American tourist George Stobbart finds himself embroiled in a mysterious journey of intrigue and jeopardy.

Enjoy a globe-spanning adventure, exploring exotic locations, solving ancient mysteries, and thwarting a dark conspiracy to reveal the secret truths of the Knights Templar.

Voyage through the game’s iconic locations illustrated in beautiful 4K on Nintendo platforms for the first time.

Listen to enhanced audio as Revolution delivers the finest, most stunning version of George and Nico’s original adventure to date.

Switch between the original 1996 version of the game and the new reforged visuals at the click of a button.

Play the game the way that you want to – choose between a ‘traditional mode’ for people who enjoy adventures the way they used to be, and a ‘story mode’ for those who want subtle hints to ensure they never get frustrated.

Switch between Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, touchscreen, and controller play styles whenever you choose..

Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches digitally today for €29.99/$29.99/£24.99. Excitingly, owners of the base game can purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack for €4.99/$4.99/£4.99.
