“The videogame music community is a vibrant and diverse community that I’ve cherished being a part of for many years now,” says Doug “DrumUltimA” Perry, Co-Director of vgmtogether.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of all of the events where we would typically gather, we wanted to create something that would help the community not feel so isolated during these difficult times.”
“In my experience, videogame music has always been about being part of a community,” adds Nujj, vgmtogether’s other Co-Director.
“We share the experiences of games we played through music, we attend concerts together, and we rehearse with friends for hours. The VGM fandom is a welcoming space for musicians and fans alike. We are crafting an event that brings that feeling of togetherness to everyone, no matter where they are.”
Musical acts include:
Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett of Supergiant Games
Super Soul Bros
String Player Gamer
Jillian Aversa
chibi-tech
Panelists include:
Musician Carlos “insaneintherain” Eiene
Artist TrulyAVaporeon
Video game supergroup Indie Maker Syndicate
Debuting at vgmtogether is “Line Them Up!,” a one-of-a-kind virtual concert presentation featuring the music of Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Directed by composer/performer Laura Intravia (who has contributed to Destiny 2, Darksiders III, Code Vein and others), with a production team that includes musicians involved with DiscoCactus, the Game Brass, and the music of Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Mortal Kombat 11, among other credits, this music video is over 30 minutes long and features 170 familiar faces from all over the VGM community, including some very special celebrity cameos.
vgmtogether hopes to give fans, musicians, and videogame music enthusiasts an opportunity to celebrate and build community despite the cancellation of in-person events due to the global pandemic.
