Press release:
The apocalyptic, sci-fi indie Orphan will be shown Thursday at Microsoft’s ID@Xbox Pre-PAX Event in Seattle. Featuring a young boy and the presumed sole-remaining survivor of an alien invasion, Orphan is a dark, 2D platformer set in the “deep dark hills of Eastern Kentucky.” Though the visual style may remind some of Limbo, Orphan is a “metroidvania” action platformer and features plenty of weapon-play, power-ups and boss battles, some of which appear in the the new official launch trailer.
Orphan will officially launch for the PC on October 31. Xbox One and PS4 versions are planned by the end of the year. The game will be the first release by Windy Hill, a one-man development studio based in Tennessee and the first game published by 2Dimensions, a software developer based in San Francisco. Orphan is among more than 50 indie titles to be shown at the event Thursday at Microsoft Building 33.
About Orphan:
Orphan is about a young boy, presumably the sole survivor of an overnight alien invasion. You will sneak across the countryside through open fields and dense forests, over dangerous mountains and through lush valleys, ducking behind rocks and trees all while being pursued by an army of machines designed to destroy all life. However the machines have their weaknesses and they carry powerful weapons that may be able to be used against them.
Orphan draws inspiration from the classic 2D games of gaming’s golden era. Orphan focuses on immersive gameplay, visuals and atmosphere and channels classics like Another World, Blackthorne and Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysey, with a touch of Journey to Silius.
