Type The Name Studio and Ultimate Games S.A. are today very happy and excited to announce that their drug empire strategy/sim “Narco Tycoon” is coming to PC and the Nintendo Switch in 2022.

The creators of this economic strategy are promising an extensive system of production and distribution of various goods, a fight for market dominance, a research and development system, and many other features. As announced by the publisher, the game will hit PC and Nintendo Switch, but conversions to other consoles are also possible.

The project is being developed by the independent, Poland-based Type The Name Studio, comprised of people with considerable experience in the industry, gained at such companies as TopWare Interactive, Teyon or Flying Wild Hog.

Narco Tycoon will be published by Ultimate Games S.A. As emphasised by the developers, the game is still at an early stage of production, and the first trailer has been released for demonstration purposes only.

Narco Tycoon is an economic strategy game with a top-down 2D view. The developers are focusing on single-player gameplay, which is expected to be very extensive and varied. Players will be able to design and build drug factories from scratch, taking care of the smallest details of the production process.

The gameplay will also involve, among others, managing the members of the organisation, taking care of the proper distribution of goods, fighting for market dominance and impunity, as well as research and development works. Your main goal will be to completely take over the drug business in the city.

“We will give the players a wide array of options and a lot of freedom in building their drug empire. We are developing a very extensive production system, with total freedom when it comes to room planning and equipment layout, but achieving a good quality of the product will require them to properly care for, among others, the right temperature, air quality etc.

A similar rule will apply to the members of the organisation – each of them will be unique, and properly assigning jobs and tending to the needs of given characters will also be of vital importance. In the same way, for example when fighting for market domination, players will be employing various tactics – some solutions will be based purely on physical force, others will lean towards diplomacy and economy” – says Marcin Steliga, Lead Designer at Type The Name Studio.

As announced by the developers, Narco Tycoon will take place in a large American city and its suburbs. The game’s mood will be serious, but it will also include a dose of black humour.

“Narco Tycoon is an unusual strategy that will surprise the players not only with its subject matter, but also with its depth and scope. The gameplay itself will be somewhat similar to games like Prison Architect and RimWorld. When it comes to the mood and references to pop culture, Narco Tycoon will surely appeal to, among others, fans of such series as Breaking Bad and Narcos” – adds Rafał Jelonek, COO at Ultimate Games S.A.

Narco Tycoon is scheduled to launch on PC (Steam) in the first half of 2022. It will also hit Nintendo Switch, and the publisher does not rule out the possibility that the game will appear on other consoles.
