Press release:
Atlanta, GA.
The Atlanta-based (the US) indie games developer Finite Reflection Studios, today announced with great delight and excitement that their N64-inspired Soulslike ‘Mouseward’, is in development for PC.

The game features a modern take on retro aesthetics, the game is a nostalgic love letter to the golden age of 3D adventures.

In Mouseward, you become a Royal Mouse Guard returned to life by a mysterious starfall; the same starfall that has covered the land in celestial fragments which warp the world and revive the dead. Your oath never ends, even in death, and as a dutybound rodent you have vowed to free the kingdom from this curse and restore it to greatness.

You are small but mighty and your journey to collect these fragments will not be easy. Venture through richly designed environments, solving cryptic clues, scurrying through rat castles and foggy forests, and meeting whimsical woodland characters, all presented in delightful low-poly style in this throwback to colorful N64 platformers.

Keep your paws ready, however, as testing encounters may lay around the corner. In Mouseward’s stamina-based modern soulslike combat, parries and dodges are crucial and you have to pick the right moment to strike. Exactly how you defeat your enemies is up to you, as you craft a build featuring shields and melee weapons, bows and arrows, and arcane abilities, plus a variety of armor sets as you customize your heroic mouse protagonist.

Key Features of Mouseward:

Challenging Soulslike Combat: Engage in deliberate, stamina-based combat where every move matters. Learn the patterns of a bestiary of corrupted foes, master your parries and dodges, and choose the perfect moment to strike. Death is a lesson, not an end.

Vast Collectathon Worlds: Hunt for scattered star fragments, unlock powerful new abilities, and open secret paths in sprawling, non-linear levels packed with fearsome foes.

Customize Your Mouse Guard: Discover a variety of weapons, armor sets, and arcane abilities. Will you be a stoic knight with a sword and shield, a nimble archer who strikes from the shadows, or a powerful mage wielding the very power of the stars?

A Somber, Quirky Cast: Encounter a memorable cast of woodland critters, both friend and foe. Unravel their stories in a world that balances whimsical charm with an undercurrent of melancholy.

Mouseward will be released on PC via Steam. An early build of the game is currently available on itch.io.

You can keep up to date with Mouseward by joining the Discord, and by following Finite Reflection Studios on Bluesky and YouTube.
