Press release:
From the creator of Monkey Island and Thimbleweed Park comes a roguelite about dying. A lot.

October 28, 2025.
The Paterson-based (the US) video games publisher and developer MicroProse and  indie games developer Terrible Toybox NZ, are today very thrilled and pleased to announce that their fast-paced rogue-like RPG ‘Death By Scrolling’ (from legendary game designer Ron Gilbert), is now available for PC via Steam (consoles versions will be released at a later time).

Welcome to Purgatory Inc., now under new management! Battle your way through a vertically scrolling afterlife where every second counts, the Reaper’s on your heels, and the Ferryman refuses to offer discounts. Pick your hero, outsmart Death, and climb your way toward the world’s most expensive river crossing.

To celebrate the launch, a brand-new trailer has been released – featuring frantic combat, cursed humor, and more creative ways to die than you probably need.

🔥 Key Features

Varied Cast of Characters – Choose from multiple misfits, each with their own perks, powers, and tragic sense of style.

Vertically Scrolling Mayhem – The screen never stops moving. Stand still, and the lava takes you. Simple math.

Relentless Pursuit – The Reaper doesn’t quit. You can dodge him, stun him, but you can’t ghost him.

Loot, Vendors & Questionable Capitalism – Collect gold and gems to buy upgrades from merchants who’ve really embraced the afterlife economy.

Side Quests & Bonus Runs – Take on extra challenges for extra loot, trauma, or both.

Monster Mash – Fight your way past demonic pests and bureaucratic bosses who hate you slightly less than their job.

Lore, Laughter & Bureaucracy – Explore a tongue-in-cheek take on afterlife management packed with cheeky dialogue and playful narration.

Leaderboards – Prove you’re the least-dead soul in Purgatory Inc.

About Death By Scrolling
