Press release:
BARCELONA – September 15, 202.
The Xiamen-based (China) indie games publisher WhisperGames and Barcelona-based (Spain) indie games developer Caligari Games, are today super happy and excited to announce that their Tim Burton-inspired adventure game “Whateverland”, is now available for PC (Windows) via Steam, GOG, and Itch.io.
Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One join the Tim Burton-inspired adventure in late 2022.
Awaken in a world filled with crooked souls after coming face-to-face with an ancient and powerful witch, Beatrice, in a failed robbery attempt. Enter the banished kingdom of Whateverland as Vincent the thief and experience the dark humor as he plots to break free from this gloomy universe and its doomed inhabitants.
Encounter deranged personalities and grotesque physiques as this world morphs its inhabitants to match their soul’s true form. Free an annoying ghost-legged man, Nick, from a cabinet to discover the world’s “truths” and attempt to find a way out of the witch’s prison world before losing their human forms forever..
Discover the tale of Beatrice’s first captured souls who received a spell to summon her at their will. The page containing this magical incantation once laid in a single place, but now finds itself scattered across the realm by greedy humans hoping to call down Beatrice and be freed from the hell that has become their normal life. That is, if the spell actually exists.
Explore each playthrough’s diverging, nonlinear paths, with a mixture of puzzles and branching storylines leading to multiple endings. Determine Vincent’s fate by playing more than 20 mini-games throughout the story. Team up with Bookashes, little bug-like creatures, on the hexagonal Bell and Bones game board for a game-within-a-game experience that will soon receive its own standalone version.
Choose to use Vincent’s thieving skills to progress the storyline, but be prepared to potentially face the consequences of toying with the boundaries of good and evil. Each action matters and impacts people’s impressions, the next scene, and if Vincent will make it out of Whateverland or be left to perish in this twisted land.
“Redesigning the miniscule details in the world of Whateverland has been one of my favorite projects thus far,” said Eli Mikeladze, Narrative Designer, Producer, and Co-Founder, Caligari Games.
“The particular characteristics integrated in allow for homages to renaissance to be portrayed with a modern twist.”
Whateverland is now available for $19.99/19.99€ on Steam, GOG, and Itch.io for Windows PC with English language voice acting and English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, Turkish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, German, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) language text with more languages to come. Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions will be released later this year.
