I never really thought that I would be the kind of person who would enjoy dating simulator games. However, I changed my mind about them when I tried “Dragon dating simulator” (which I did back in 2014), and quite a lot has happened to the dating simulator market as of lately as well. For starter, it appears as if more and more people have started to enjoy games of that kind. Because for the last two years I´ve seen a handful of indie developers who have released a dating simulator title for a various number of different formats. Even so, I haven´t seen or played anything quite like Beautiful Glitch´s kinky and naughty monster dating sim “Monster Prom” before.
I´m not exaggerating either, because “Monster Prom” really looks and feels like a mix of “The Addams family” (the monsters), “Leisure Suit Larry” (the lewd part) and modern-day pop culture. In all honesty though, I wasn´t quite sure if that combination would fly well with me, but it truly did. So much so that I wish that the demo for “Monster Prom” would have been a bit longer, because the game ends when things are just about to get really interesting. Furthermore, it would have been nice to have been given more options in the demo. Nevertheless, I still got a pretty good idea of what Beautiful Glitch is trying to achieve with “Monster Prom”.
Even so, I would still like to point out that the demo is a rather short one. So don´t expect any long gameplay sections. However, since everything is randomized in the game. You could actually experience quite a few different outcomes based on what you did and didn´t do during your turns. In my case, I played “Monster Prom” all by myself. So I was controlling four players during each turn (yes, the game is turn-based, you make your move then it´s time for someone else to make his or her move), that didn´t make the game less enjoyable for me though. In the matter of fact, I got a chance to fool around quite a bit (as seen in my gameplay video). Simply put, I didn´t really take myself or the game all that serious, since I wanted to see how far I could push “Monster Prom” in terms of craziness.
Well, I didn´t get disappointed. As I´ve experienced everything from talking about dick picks, having a sexy monster girl to go half-nude to getting a bj at school. So there should be more than enough craziness and madness to go around for everyone. I also enjoyed the dialogs, the art style, the in-game music and the lewd content a whole lot. However, everything wasn´t sun shine and rainbows. Because like I stated earlier, the demo is rather short, and you didn´t get all that many in-game options to pick from. I also think that Beautiful Glitch should have tossed in more stuff for you to do. As the gameplay becomes rather repetitive after a whole.
I still enjoyed the “Monster Prom” demo from the beginning to the very end though (I laughed more than one time at the game´s dialogs and characters), and “if” Beautiful Glitch delivers everything which they have promised with their Kickstarter campaign (which has become a huge success!). Then there is no doubt in my mind that “Monster Prom” could become a big dating simulator hit once the game launches for PC in May next year. So I wish them the very best of luck with everything.
Pros:
+ Awesome art style
+ Funny dialogs
+ Soft music
+ Nice lewd content
+ Randomized events
Cons:
– There are quite few options to choose from
– The demo is rather short
– You can´t do all that much in the demo
