“Oppaidius Summer Trouble!” is an ecchi visual novel by Vittorio Giorgi (SbargiSoft). The game follows the trials and tribulations of a shut-in, who’s almost solitary existence is interrupted by a (very) large breasted woman wanting to borrow milk. The only problem is she may or may not exist – and the protagonist starts to suffer weird and lewd dreams soon after her visit.
Most of Oppaidius’s comedy derives from Serafina’s ample assets, the protagonist’s reactions to them and his friends insistence that he may be imagining it all… Whilst it seems comedic most of the time, there is always a spectre of something more serious hiding in the story. Especially as the protagonist starts suffering from weird dreams, and Serafina starts having problems of her own.
The graphics of “Oppaidius Summer Trouble!” are reminiscent of early VGA PC games. Although initially, I thought they were a similar to ZX Spectrum graphics – except with more colour. The art style may not be to everyone’s taste. Whilst it is unique, it could be seen as taking retro-gaming too far back. The backgrounds are gaudy and do make reading the text problematic at times. Some of the characters are nicely drawn but Serafina – breasts aside – does look weird.
The game features mini-games – the first you will come across is a swimming contest, where you have to mash two keys together in order to hopefully win. Fail, and the game ends, for… well, you’ll have to find out. The second mini-game involves massaging Serafina’s back *cough cough*.
The music is pretty good, and the sound effects are used to a comical effect – especially for when characters appear. It’s certainly an interesting story. There are a few problems with it at the moment, namely, Serafina’s breasts do get in the way of some text during the story, although it may be intentional, and some of the English is a bit dodgy at times.
There are also a few things missing that are standard in visual novels, for example, the ability to skip text or a backlog. However, they don’t detract from the game too much. So it’s no big thing for me really. Even so, please keep in mind that I have just played the beta demo of “Oppaidius Summer Trouble!”. So all of this might be solved once the full version of the game launched for PC (Windows and MAC) sometime during this Fall.
As for here and now though, I find Vittorio Giorgi’s “Oppaidius Summer Trouble!” to be a really fun and creative +18 lewd visual novel. So it’s going to be truly interesting to see what the full version of “Oppaidius” will offer later this fall. So if you like what you seen and read from my PC preview of the game, then you could always download the demo for “Oppaidius” and give it a try for yourself 😉
Pros:
+ Funny story, that may have a dark side to it
+ Mini-games are amusing
+ Be worth re-playing for the different endings
+ The art style is pretty cool at times
Cons:
– Graphics are not to everyone’s taste
– Some of the English is dodgy
– Some of the text is hard to read on the background. This is especially noticeable with selectable options.
– Some of the usual visual novel controls aren’t present
Gameplay: 3/5
Graphics: 3/5
Sound and music: 3/5
Controls:3/5
Replay value: 3/5
Story: 4/5
Verdict: 4/5
Oppaidius Summer Trouble! is a very funny +18 lewd visual novel that offers an interesting story. Well, at least if you don’t mind salacious content. Nevertheless, this is a visual novel that would be well worth getting. As it’s at a reasonable price, more so if you like bosomy women.
