When brutal ain´t brutal enough
I have spent over +60 hours on Sergeant Mark IV´s latest edition of Brutal Doom (Brutal Doom v20), and still I can´t get enough of BD v20, because there´s so much awesome stuff that you can do in BD v20. In my case, I’ve been playing Final Doom for weeks now (it´s the only Doom game that I haven´t finished), and as you may know, Final Doom is considered to be one of the hardest Doom games ever made. So when you play Final Doom on the highest difficulty in BD v20, then you better be darn good, because there´s very little room for mistakes in Final Doom (there are also a lot of deadly traps to be found in that game as well).
However, thankfully enough you (we) have been given some brand-new weapons (hand grenades, for example) and fatality (execution) moves, all of which will come in handy against the hordes of hell, Sergeant Mark IV has also added tons of new features and improvements to BD v20 (such as better graphics, new death animations, sound effects, etc.), the biggest change of course, would be the fact that Brutal Doom is now more brutal than ever before (just watch our Brutal Doom v20 video further down the page).
DoomGuy, the one man army slaughter machine
I am not exaggerating either. As BD v20 is more brutal than any other FPS game that I’ve ever played in my whole life. So, is the game any good then? Hell yeah! And Andrew Hulshult soundtrack makes the gameplay experience ever more awesome and entertaining. However, I still think that the co-op mode is the best (and funniest) way to play BD v20, because something crazy has always happened when I have played BD v20 with my brothers, the only death matches are pure gold as well.
So I can´t really say that there are a lot of cons or downsides to Brutal Doom v20. I mean, it´s the best version of Brutal Doom to date. It owns pretty much every single FPS game there is, and you can download the mod for free! To be honest, the only cons that I can think of right now, is that there are some bugs and compatibility problems with BD v20 (not everyone might experience this), and the enemy a.i acts rather stupid at times (slow reflexes, shots their own, makes foolish decisions, etc.).
Other than that, nope, Brutal Doom v20 is a rock solid and awesome FPS gameplay experience. Thus my high-grade of 4.5/5!
Pros:
+ Plenty of new ways to kill your enemies
+ Modern, Classic and Random modes
+ New difficulty (Realism mode)
+ Dual weapons (SMG and plasma for example)
+ Better graphics
+ Andrew Hulshult´s epic soundtrack
+ The Co-op mode = Godlike!
Cons:
– The enemy a.i is somewhat stupid at times
– Some bugs and compatibility problems
Verdict: 4.5/5
There are no doubts (whatsoever) that Brutal Doom v20 is the best version of Brutal Doom to date, nor the fact that BD v20 is one of the coolest FPS games on the market at this time.
