If you´re a user of Twitter (just like we are), then you might have noticed something rather strange as of lately. Yes, that´s correct. You can´t use your Twitter background, now can you? (it´s like that for pretty much everyone at the moment). Well, i´ll have you know that It´s not a Twitter error or bug. Nope, it´s in fact a change that Twitter plans to implement on all of it´s users (as a default setting that affects everybody on Twitter). Funny enough though, some Twitter users are not affected by these changes, at least not yet. However, those who have had their Twitter backgrounds stripped from them (including us) are rather upset and angry over these changes by Twitter. And rightfully so, since custom-made backgrounds gave your Twitter page a personal and unique look.
Well, those days seem to be over now. As Twitter has decided to remove the ability to add your own backgrounds to Twitter. And in case you wonder what default background picture (color in this case) Twitter has chosen for everyone, then check out the picture down below:
Well, let´s just say that I don´t like the background color all that much, because not only does it hurt my eyes, but it´s also rather hard to tell different Twitter users apart as well (as Twitter forces that background color up on you). However, there is “some” good news to be told (despite what I´ve just said). Like the fact that your background picture is still shown on your Twitter posts and mentions page, and you can also add a unique background picture to your profile page (as seen down below).
You can also use the Firefox add-on “dark backgrounds switcher“, or the Chrome add-on “Autophagy” to blockout Twitter´s changes (the removal of your Twitter background picture). Keep this in mind though, other Twitter users will not be able to see your background picture. See those addon´s will just save you from Twitter´s really ugly default background. So why has Twitter rolled out changes of this kind? Well, there are a lot of rumors and speculations going around right now that Twitter plans to add ads to Twitter. If that´s true, then Twitter seems to walk down the same path as Facebook and Myspace.
I can´t say that I like the idea of that, since both Myspace and Facebook is pretty crappy nowadays…
