Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game creation event, annually bringing together tens of thousands of game developers from over 100 countries to make thousands of video games in the span of 48 hours. 2023 will be the 15th edition of GGJ and seeing as how it is such a big occasion we decided to make things even bigger this year.

As previously announced we are moving GGJ Next, our annual game creation event focused on young game creators to coincide with GGJ and second we are announcing a new addition to our annual tradition, GGJ Prep Week!

GGJ Prep week will happen the week prior to GGJ and feature an entire week’s worth of content hosted on our Twitch and YouTube channels and presented by GGJ, our sponsors and our local communities around the world to get you ready for the jam. With all of that out of the way we can get to the news you have all been waiting for, the dates for Global Game Jam 2023:

GGJ Prep Week: 23-27 Jan

Global theme reveal event: 28/29 Jan (depending on your time zone)

Jam week: 30 Jan – 5 Feb

You or your site organizer will have the flexibility to run your jam site over any of the 48 hours in the week of January 30 – Feb 5, 2023 or all of it if you plan to jam online but we expect most people will run their site the weekend of 3-5 February 2022 as is traditional with GGJ.

Jam site registration is expected to open in Early/mid-October so keep your eyes on our website and social media for the announcement of site registrations being open.

Global Game Jam 2022 saw the return of in-person jamming and we hope even more of you are able to do it again this year as long as it is safe to do so in your area.
