It´s almost 15 years since Ion Storm, Eidos Interactive and Warren Spector´s cyberpunk FPS/RPG game “Deus EX 1” got released (the original game was released back in June year 2000).
But even though “Deus Ex 1” is a really old game. It´s still loved by many, and thanks to the mod scene and the hardcore fans. “Deus Ex 1” is still alive and kicking to this very day.
And since year 2000 “Deus Ex 1” has received over 30 game awards. And the game is still considered to be one of the best cyberpunk FPS/rpg hybrids there is.
Me, i bought the game on release during the summer of year 2000. And let me tell you what, thanks to “Deus Ex 1” that summer kicked so much ass!
But just like everything else, there´s always an end to everything. So there was a big void to fill after that i finished “Deus Ex 1”. And i can´t say that i was all that much impressed by the sequel “Deus Ex: Invisible War”.
As the game was nothing like the original Deus Ex. It´s not a bad game, not at all. But all the hardcore elements from “Deus Ex 1” was all gone.
And even though i really enjoyed “Deus Ex: Human Revolution”, i would still love to see a remake of “Deus Ex 1”. Well, that might actually happen.
Because when Square Enix/Eidos Interactive tweeted out that “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” is in the making. Warren Spector (the maker of Deus Ex 1 and 2) took notice of the tweet as well.
In fact, Spector was thrilled over the fact that Deus Ex is trending again. Then Spector started to speculate about doing a HD remake of the original “Deus Ex” game.
And that´s what caught my attention on Twitter. Because i would love to see a Deus Ex HD Remake happen. And i´m talking about a TOTAL remake. Kind of like Resident Evil Remake.
Here´s the thing though. Square Enix owns the “Deus Ex” licence. So Warren Spector would have to talk to Square Enix about doing a Deus Ex HD Remake.
Warren pointed that out in his tweet though. However, Warren also mentioned that he would love to make an indie game. So who knows, Warren Spector might just make a small cyberpunk “Deus Ex” inspired indie game in the near future?
So, what do you guys/girls think about all of this? And would you like to see a HD Remake of “Deus Ex 1”? Let us know in the comment section!
