As most of you already know by now, Gamescom 2017 is less than two weeks away now (the event kicks-off on the 22nd of August). However, what you might not know is that Okomotive’s atmospheric vehicle adventure game “FAR: Lone Sails” is coming to Gamescom 2017 (the game is in development for PC, Xbox One and PS4). You see, Mixtvision (the publisher of “FAR: Lone Sails”) informed me/us about this matter last night:

“Dear Robin,

how are you doing? Unfortunately, we haven’t met before, so let me quickly introduce myself: I’m a PR/Marketing person for a small independent publishing house called Mixtvision in Munich, Germany. With our partners at Zurich Game Studio Okomotive (part of Mr. Whale’s Game Service) we are currently working on our first PC/Console title called “FAR: Lone Sails”.

We are very happy to present “FAR: Lone Sails” at this year’s Gamescom on the Indie Arena Booth showfloor (Hall 10.1 / A-020). We will show a brandnew pre-Alpha demo version of the game at the expo: the vehicle and main character both got a visual overhaul and there are new game mechanics to try out and obstacles to overcome. The new demo build is set in a not-shown-before part of the gameworld, so there is plenty to discover.

“FAR: Lone Sails” is a vehicle adventure game: the player needs to maintain and upgrade their vessel to traverse a dried-out sea. On their journey the player has to overcome various obstacles and hazardous weather conditions as they travel through a desolate, yet fascinating world. Where will this journey take them, and what will they find if they can make it? Challenging yet intuitive gameplay and gorgeous audio-visual design blend together into an intriguing game experience leaving you relaxed, yet with a certain urge to pack your bags and just take off into the unknown.

“FAR: Lone Sails” is the brainchild of Don Schmocker, a young game designer from Zurich, Switzerland. The title has already won a couple of awards – and we’re not even done developing! We’re expecting to release on PC in the first quarter of 2018 and on Xbox / PS4 later that year.”Mixtvision

far lone sails

“FAR: Lone Sails” is a really good-looking and promising vehicle adventure game with no doubt.

In other words, some Gamers might actually get a chance to play a brand-new demo of “FAR: Lone Sails” on site at Gamescom 2017 =) Furthermore, “if” everything goes according to plan, then we should be able to play the full version of “FAR: Lone Sails” some time next year (Q1 for PC, and TBA 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One). Great news indeed, but what exactly is “FAR: Lone Sails” all about then? Well, this is the actual story for the game:

“Under cloud-strewn skies, the player travels across a seemingly endless dried-up sea, littered with the remains of a once vibrant seafaring civilization. The game’s world is largely devoid of
life, yet filled with places to explore and history to discover. What once was the bottom of an ocean, has turned into a graveyard for submarines and super tankers. Once bustling island settlements have decayed into hilltop ruins. What secrets do they hold? And more importantly… is there any salvage to be found?! While the greater goal of the journey remains to be uncovered by the player, urgent short-term necessities call for immediate action. The train-like vehicle needs to be fueled, maintained and upgraded to master the challenges that lie ahead…” Okomotive

far lone sails the calm before the storm

This picture gave me some very strong “Mad Max” vibes, and I love it!

As for features, these are the said key features for “FAR: Lone Sails”:

– Challenging vehicle gameplay: Maintain and upgrade your vessel to overcome numerous obstacles and hazardous weather conditions.
– A unique world to discover: Explore a desolate dried-out seabed and follow the trails of a once flourishing civilization.
– Immersive experience: Revel in astoundingly beautiful landscapes and indulge in the intricate, yet soothing soundtrack.

So “if” you like the sound of that, then you should keep your eyes open for the new “FAR: Lone Sails” demo at the Gamescom 2017 event =) (you can watch the latest trailer further down the page) And with that said, what do you boys and girls think about “FAR: Lone Sails” so far?
