I wish that I could share a lot of positive thoughts and opinions about Pencil test studios point-and-click adventure game “Armikrog“. And that I could be happy with the game as a whole. Sadly enough, I can´t. And I’m going to tell you why (I will write-up a full review at a later time). Right off the bat, “Armikrog” collected almost 1 million dollars via Kickstarter (+18K people supported the game) back in June 2013. That´s quite a lot of money and production time. However, the time and the money are not the main issue here, as it takes a lot of time (and money) to create a game such as “Armikrog” (The Neverhood was not done over a night). No, instead I was really disappointed over the fact how buggy (and short) “Armikrog” is (I’m not kidding. The game is over after two hours of gameplay). And keep in mind that the game costs 25 Euro via Steam and GOG (that´s a pretty high price for a game that only offers two hours worth of gameplay).

“Armikrog” ain´t quite “The Never Hood 2”. Some would say that the game feels like a DLC or expansion pack than anything else.
Don´t get me wrong, I love the game concept, design, look and feel of “Armikrog” (Mike Dietz and Doug TenNapel have done a great job with the “Neverhood” look-a-like visuals of the game). Nevertheless, that won´t save the game from getting the red card anyhow. As “Armikrog” is a really buggy, short and expensive gameplay experience (thus the 65% average score on Gamerankings). So honestly I have no idea what went wrong during the +2 year production of “Armikrog,” as it feels like Pencil test studios tripped on the goal line. At least, that´s how I feel right now. Funny fact, at first I thought that it was just me, or that there was something wrong with my version of “Armikrog.” But then I saw what other people wrote on Steam (quite a few people had pointed out the very same flaws as I did here and now). That was not the case though. However, I´m going to download and try the Patch v1.01 before I attempt to write a review of “Armikrog.” Don´t expect me to give the game any high grades though…
With that said, what do you guys think about “Armikrog” so far? Did the game live up to your expectations?
