The Sweden-based indie games publisher Thunderful Publishing and the Litauen-based indie games developer Tag Of Joy, are today very pleased and happy to announce that they have just released a brand-new playable demo for their upcoming hand-painted point-and-click adventure game “Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit” (the demo is available right now for PC via Steam).

“Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit” will be a part of Steam’s Big Adventure Event, starting today, via a new demo giving players a peek at the intriguing mysteries, satisfying puzzles, and stunning hand-painted scenery that will be on offer in the game’s full release.

Headed up by the art director from Broken Sword 2.5, Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit takes inspiration from adventure classics like Broken Sword and Syberia, while offering a modern and unique take on the genre that brings to light the less explored parts of Europe’s mysterious history, from the legendary stories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, to the villainous plotting of the KGB.

You take on the role of Milda, a girl from Chicago who unexpectedly receives the last will of her grandfather from Lithuania – apparently, she is the last guardian of a mysterious family secret. Curious about what the secret could be, Milda flies to Europe to try and figure it out and before long finds herself embroiled in a hunt for a lost relic and stories about an uncrowned king.

In the demo you play the second chapter of the game, where Milda has just arrived from Chicago at her grandfather’s house for the first time, looking for clues that can help her figure out what is going on. The new demo features an overhauled user interface which makes the controls simpler and more intuitive and adds voice-over acting.

“This charming demo gives players a feeling of what to expect from the game in terms of its puzzles and the story, but rest assured there’s plenty more to come!” said director of the game Šarūnas Ledas.

“In the full game we are going to take players on a journey across Europe, introducing them to a stunning host of sites and an eclectic roster of memorable characters. We hope players enjoy this taste of what’s on offer and we can’t wait for the chance to share more.”
