Apparently it was not quite the “whole” truth that Nintendo forced Youtube to remove Angry Joe´s “Mario Party 10” video (even though the Swedish Gaming magazine “LEVEL” wrote that out in fine print). Because Angry Joe choose (by himself) to remove his “Mario Party 10” video from Youtube, when he no longer could monetize on it.

So i’m sorry for the incorrect information as i indicated earlier.

And here we go again…This ain´t exactly “news” as all of this went down a couple of weeks ago (April 4th to be exact). But i found out about the “Angry Joe´s Mario Party 10 video Vs Nintendo” incident just now. And it´s extra interesting for me, because back in January (this year) i wrote an article called “Nintendo and Youtube copyrights – Angry Joe spits it out“.

Which basically covered (at the time) the Youtube controversy over Angry Joe´s “Zelda” and “Mario Kart” movies. As they got copyright flagged by Nintendo. And this caused a lot of angry rants all over the world back then. And while all of this went down, Nintendo unveiled the “Nintendo Creators Program” (which gives Nintendo a percentage of your ad revenue on your YouTube videos).

And that just made things even worse. As people felt like Nintendo was taking money out of their pockets (for their hard work). And here´s a fair warning. read the contract BEFORE you sign up for Nintendos Youtube partnership program (as it gives Nintendo the legal rights to pull the plug on your Youtube channel at ANY given time). So no wonder why Angry Joe stated the following in his”WTF Nintendo!?! Seriously? – Angry Rant” video:

“What the hell Nintendo. You are still doing this shit on Youtube? I was having a god damn great time and wanted to tell everyone and share how much fun I was having and my recommendations and THIS is how you respond. A copyright claim? DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND how stupid you are being? How can you guys still be doing this? Seriously.

Fuck Off. Why is it other companies get it and you don’t? Nintendo Japan can Kiss My Ass.F**king ridiculous. Now let all the nintendo defenders flood my comments with ass licking and praise for your corporate dickishness. Yea, AngryJoe is the bad guy here. All he cares about are his videos and continuing his show. He should give all his shows funds to nintendo if he wants to cover their games.

If Nintendo claims my videos so they can monetize them for themselves on any WiiU Angry Reviews, I refuse to do any. This is what affiliated channel have to put up with if they are trying to support nintendo products on youtube. CHANGE YOUR STUPID ASS POLICY NOW. Thanks to LIExLIE for the WiiU, its fun as hell.” – Joe Vargas, AKA “Angry Joe”

That´s pretty spot on if you ask me. And some might also find it rather strange that YOU should be paying Nintendo money (Youtube ad revenue) for doing free advertisement for their games (which you have bought with your own money).

I sure made the right decision NOT to recorded Nintendo videos for Youtube…

But let´s move on to the more “recent” events of Angry Joe and his “Mario Party 10” video shall we? For starter, this is not the first time that Joe has had copyright problems with Youtube. But when Nintendo stripped Joe´s ability to monetize on his “Mario Party 10” video, that was the last drop for Joe (that was about 40-60 hour of hard work down the drain right there).

And Joe showed no mercy in his “Final Nintendo Angry Rant! – Anti-Youtuber Policies” video. Joe stated stuff such as:
“Nintendo Japan is greedy as fuck“, “Nintendo is very Anti-Gamer”, “It´s the last fucking time that i ever make a Nintendo Video“ and “Nintendo fanboys will ALWAYS defend Nintendo no matter what”.

Joe even added the following on his “Final Nintendo Angry Rant! – Anti-Youtuber Policies” video:

“First i bought your console for a couple of $100 bucks. Then i spent a lot of money on games and accessories. I also recommended the Wii U to a lot of my friends. Then i spent about 40-60 hours on editing the Mario Party 10 video, and sharing it with over 2 million subscribers. All so that you could have it removed on Youtube. You know what, fuck you Nintendo!” – Joe Vargas, AKA “Angry Joe”

Sure, it´s Nintendo´s IP´s (property). So Nintendo can do whatever they like with their IP´s. But this got me thinking. Let´s say that everyone (EA, Capcom, Activision and so on) follows Nintendo´s example when it comes to gameplay videos on Youtube. Then what kind of effect will that have on the Gaming community? And will the game sales drop, or get higher because it?

A Youtube user called “LynxShadow” made a really good comment on this topic about IP holders Vs gameplay videos on Youtube. And this is what he/she said:

“Youtubers have not created a business model for making money off copyrighted IP. If all gaming platforms suddenly decide to go Nintendo’s route or say we don’t want our content on any of your channels, there’s nothing any of you can do about it. Youtubers are lucky because a lot of IPs simply don’t care until you start to make a lot of money or you’re Pewdiepie.” – LynxShadow, a Youtube user

I also think Joe had a good point about EA. Because EA get´s tons of hate and critic for all of their bad decisions (no matter if it´s a buggy game or an expensive DLC). But for some odd reason. While Nintendo on the other hand get´s away with murder most of the time.

And that´s probably why Angry Joe wrote the following on his latest Nintendo rant video:

“This is the final Nintendo Angry Rant and the Final Nintendo Video on this channel. Tired of these guys claiming our videos as their own. While other companies are understanding how valuable the youtube gaming community is, Nintendo only see’s free labor and dollar signs.

Because of that attitude, I wont be covering Mario Kart, Mario Party, Zelda, Star Fox, Metroid and whatever 17th version of the same game Nintendo wants people to talk about on YouTube until they pull their heads out of their asses and stop claiming videos.

Nintendo thinks they need control of your content through their rev share program which takes 40% of your earnings ON TOP of what youtube takes (50%?) AND on top of what your managed channel network takes (20%-40%?). And obviously with their approval and permission. Geezuz guys. Really?

The pennies on the dollar they would earn from our vids is so important to them, they DONT GIVE a shit about what gamers think, they don’t GIVE a SHIT what YouTube’s think or if its bad PR for them. I can guarantee you Nintendo of American has tried explaining this to them and they sat there in their office like, “NOPE. FUCK EM’.” That´s how awesome Nintendo Japan is. Where as other indie companies would KILL for a let play or hell even big companies like blizzard just love to see their games get exposure on twitch, on YouTube, anywhere! NO Nintendo says fuck you give me money if others watch you play our games.” – Joe Vargas, AKA Angry Joe
