For the last 18 years there has been no new season for Dragon Ball. Well, that´s about to change. As “Dragon Ball Super” emerges. Which would be a brand new Dragon Ball tv-series (it´s inspired by Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga). And “Dragon Ball Super” is set for it´s grand premiere on Fuji TV (and some other channels) in July this summer (the show will air on Sundays at 9:00 am).
This means that “Dragon Ball Zuper” would be the first new tv-aired Dragon Ball series since “Dragon Ball GT” (it aired between 1996-1997). So when does “Dragon Ball Z” take place then? I´m glad that you asked. The new tv-series is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu. So it´s around the time when earth has become a peaceful place again.
And this is what Masako Nozawa (the voice of Goku, Gohan and Goten) had to say about the plot for”Dragon Ball Super”:
“We’ve always used the word ‘chō’ (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”
Osamu Nozaki (Fuji TV producer) gives his share of thoughts on the script for “Dragon Ball Super”:
“As I read the plot [of the series] I’ve already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear…”
So who´s behind the “Dragon Ball Super” series then? Well, you got people such as Akira Toriyama (the original creator of Dragon Ball), Kimitoshi Chioka (Toei Animation), Naoko Sagawa (Yomiko Advertising, Inc.) and Atsushi Kido (Toei Animation) working on the series.
In other words, this might light the fuse to a much very much-needed Dragon Ball reboot. If that´s the case, then we will know for sure in July!
