I know that it´s been weeks since Alexis Kleinman posted her stupid Samus Aran article “Nintendo’s ‘Strong Females’ Are Everything That’s Wrong With Video Games“.
But i never paid all that much attention to it because of that simple fact. Which would be that the article is really stupid.
I just ignored the whole thing. But earlier today that article got slammed in my face. Because i had almost forgotten that Super Metroid turned 21 years old this month (March 19th).
So while i was searching for some cool “Super Metroid” related information, i stumbled up on Alexis Kleinman´s Nintendo post. And she stated so many stupid things in that post, but these parts topped everything else that Alexis wrote:
“On Tuesday, Nintendo emailed me, saying that it was celebrating Women’s History Month. How? By putting some of its female characters on Rosie the Riveter-style posters. It’s a cute idea, but there’s a big issue: Nintendo doesn’t really have many powerful or playable female characters.“
“Here’s the full list of female characters that Nintendo intends on celebrating for Women’s History Month: Tetra from “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD,” Toadette from the Mario series, Bayonetta from “Bayonetta,” Rosalina from the Mario series, Lucina from “Fire Emblem,” Samus Aran from “Metroid” and Bombette from “Paper Mario.” Have you heard of most of these characters? Didn’t think so.“
Like, are you bloody serious? If you´re a Nintendo player, then yes. Then you do KNOW who those women are. And i´ve been a fan of Samus Aran since Metroid 1 got released to the NES system.
To be honest, i think Bob Bob made the best comment on Alexis article:
“If you haven’t heard of any of the characters you mentioned, then you don’t play Nintendo games.” – Bob Bob
And let me tell you about Samus Aran miss Alexis. She´s THE best darn space bounty hunter there ever was in the world of Gaming. And Samus Aran has 10 games to her name as well (12, if you count “Metroid Prime Pinball” and “Metroid Prime: Trilogy”).
And she´s been the big star in each and every single one of them. I have to admit though, i do not like “Metroid : Other M” all that much.
It´s not a bad game, but i never liked the way that Team Ninja portrayed Samus in that game. And the game’s plot doesn´t make things better really (the same thing can be said about the terrible idea to give Samus Aran a voice, a really bad one too…).
Anyhow, i´m going to wrap this up by saying that Alexis Kleinman have no idea (whatsoever) what´s she´s talking about. And i still think that “Super Metroid” is one of the best games of all time (no matter genre).
“Super Metroid” is a must play for everyone that love platform/action games really. At least it´s a 5/5 in my book, that´s for sure!
