You know, it’s kind of funny how life and faith works sometimes. You see, for the first time in over 10 years. I sat down and started to watch the 1997 anime version of “Berserk” again (I’ll get to the point shortly), and while I was doing that a follower/reader of ours introduced me to Aleksandar Kuzmanovic and his hardcore 2D metroidvania “Unworthy” (thanks Black Cat Dandy!). Well, as soon as I watched the release trailer for the game I almost immediately thought of “Berserk”.
Furthermore, “Unworthy” also made me think about games such as “Limbo”, “Heart of Darkness”, “Castlevania” and “Slain“. Anyways, I think you get the idea. So let’s jump to the part the concern the release of Kuzmanovic’s “Unworthy” shall we? As I was saying, Kuzmanovic has worked on “Unworthy” for over three years time now, and less than 48-hours ago he announced the PC release of “Unworthy”. Yep, the full game is out right now via Steam and GOG, and it’s all yours for 13,49 Euros.
Nice indeed, but what is “Unworthy” all about then? Well, here’s a short deception of the game by Kuzmanovic (the maker of the game) himself:
“At Death’s Door
Robbed of life and unworthy of death, a nameless warrior wanders a ruined landscape in search of meaning…
A Hardcore Metroidvania…
UNWORTHY is a hardcore combat-focused metroidvania without jumping. You play a warrior, risen from the grave. Equipped with sword and shield, you must traverse a bleak and hostile world swarming with creatures of nightmare. Your patience, determination and skill will be put to the test, as you fight against epic bosses, uncover powerful weapons and abilities, and attempt to prove your worth.” –
So if you like the sound of that, then you might want to pick up and give “Unworthy” a try =) However, if you’re still not quite sure if this is your cup of tea or not, then you could always watch the release date trailer further down the page.
As for me, Kuzmanovic was friendly enough to hook me up with a review key for “Unworthy” (I talked to him for quite some time over Twitter, his a really nice guy!). So I’m already working on a review and video for the game. In other words, I will publish the said review and video as soon as possible. Other than that, I just noticed that Kuzmanovic has launched a patch for “Unworthy” (the v1.0.1 patch). So if you end up getting the game, then you probably don’t want to miss out on that patch 😉
And with that said, what’s your take on “Unworthy“? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
