It´s kind of funny how things are evolving on Twitter. because it doesn´t seem like Twitter´s CEO (Jack Dorsey) understands (or wants to understand) that people are fed up with censorship, political correctness and the SJW plague over at Twitter (and in general). As Jack Dorsey (and his Twitter crew) just continues to work really hard to turn Twitter into a big “safe space” playground for SJW´s and special snow flakes worldwide (I take it that Dorsey simply ignores that quite a lot of Twitter users doesn´t like this kind of transformation?) . And even though kukuruyo is back on Twitter again, it´s most likely just a matter of time before he gets thrown out from Twitter´s platform for the second time.
Well, time will tell, and speaking of Twitter and censorship nonsense. I just heard that Twitter has introduced a so called “quality filter” function (as seen in the picture above). And according to Twitter, it´s meant to let users “filter out trolls from their notifications“. Well, in theory that may sound like a nice feature. However, there are two big problems that I can call out right away. 1. The quality filter option is turned on by default and 2. This function was not created with good intent, as Twitter is biased to the max when it comes to Twitter users, hashtags and content that are politically incorrect. In other words, the “quality filter” will be used to filter out “harmful” opinions and politically incorrect content (check out the picture down below for a live example of that).
So not only do you run a risk of ending up on a blocklist if you hold the “wrong” thoughts and opinions. You could now also end up being muted completely on Twitter, or end up being suspended (or banned). And since Twitter´s CEO is like the real-life version of PC principal from “South Park”, things will just get worse on Twitter over time. And that´s also why I have decided to look for an alternative to Twitter.
And that´s also how I found my way to the Sea Lion Club homepage:
“Welcome to Sealion.Club “Sealioning” is a term to deride ideological opponents, usually used by professional victims that are unable carry on two-way conversations. It is usually claimed as a facet of harassment even if no threats or vulgarity are present and the architecture of a communication medium is being used appropriately and within the bounds of acceptable use. Naturally, we appropriated this weak attempt at mockery. As we wont to do. We believe strongly in freedom of speech and freedom of expression, that there is more to lose by restricting it than there is in any imagined protections that come from doing so.
What comes with that free agency is an emphasis on personal responsibility. We cannot monitor this instance 24/7, and it is counter-intuitive to pre-approve every notice submitted to the server. We rely on our users to build the community they want through their actions of self-policing. We have one hard, fast, non-negotiable rule here, and that is no pictures uploaded for the purpose of sexualizing minors. No child model pictures, no jailbait, no child pornography. We will not hesitate to cooperate with law enforcement for any of these violations of law that victimize real, flesh and blood children. Otherwise, you’re golden.
There’s nothing else we can fathom off the top of our heads that would show for any need of suppression, though we do reserve the right to make any judgment call necessary, and bring an issue forward to the community to discuss how best to deal with any situation that may come up. You may receive polite nudges that you would be best suited running your own instance. This instance isn’t the end-all, be-all of the future of communication. It is at best a stop-gap solution while breaking away from the centralized walled-gardens of sites such as Twitter.
We’re ultimately not interested in creating home bases and gated communities by which speech can thrive and ultimately be constrained within; we want those ideals to instead be “power armor” wrapped around each person who wishes to don it so that they can brave the wasteland of a subjugated society. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot a message to one of the admins or moderators, and enjoy your stay.”– Sea Lion Club
And by what I´ve seen and read about Sea Lion Club so far, it´s basically a Twitter-like service minus all the SJW/PC/anti-free speech nonsense. So if you´re just as fed up with Twitter´s censorship, gated communities and safe space practices as I am. Then you should most definitely give Sea Lion Club a try! (the service is 100% free to use). And now that I think about it, all of this is pretty similar to the case were Ellen Pao was tearing Reddit and its community a part. And in the aftermath of that, Voat rose up from the ashes. So “maybe” the Sea Lion Club will soak up a lot of unhappy users from Twitter? (you can find us at https://sealion.club/tgg).
Well, we just have to wait and see I guess. One thing is for sure though, Twitter has already surpassed George Orwell´s “1984” book. So I´m quite sure that more and more people will start to leave Twitter for other Twitter-like services such as Sea Lion Club.
And with that said, what´s your take on this matter? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
