It´s been a long time since I played a game that´s been able to make me scream out of pure anger. Well, Shadebob Games action/adventure game “InfiniTrap” brought out my inner Angry Video Game Nerd again. As “InfiniTrap” is the kind of game that has a lot of old-school elements to it. You know, the frustration over a high difficulty and tons of traps and enemies that kills you on the spot. However, at the same time it´s also something which I enjoy as well. Because I´m the kind of person that never gives up. As I grew up playing games such as “Ninja Gaiden“, MegaMan”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Double Dragon 3“.

And trust me on this, “InfiniTrap” offers a high difficulty from the very start (the game is really hard even on normal). In the matter of fact, most of the games stages (there are 35 levels in total) consists of a lot of “trail and error” challenges. Because at times you have no idea what you should do, and if you die. Then you have to start all over from the very start again (the beginning of the level in question). So the “fast paced puzzle game for hardcore players” description is pretty spot on, in my opinion.

And I’m not exaggerating either, because in “InfiniTrap” you die instantly if you get hit by something (no matter if it´s an arrow, stone, fire, acid or whatever). So there are zero to none room for mistakes. In a way, “InfiniTrap” is the “Darksouls” of  indie action/platform adventure games. That´s just the half of it though, as the controllers are somewhat sloppy. In the matter of fact, at times there are no instant response between your actions and the games main character. And as you might imagine, that will lead to a lot of anger and frustration. So you will end up dying quite a lot due to controller issues (I really hope that Shadebob Games will sort that problem out in the near future), and the time limit will drive you insane once you reach the higher levels within the game with no doubt (you better be fast on your feet!).

Don´t let any of that turn you off though, because “InfiniTrap” is still a rather entertaining and highly addictive game. As you want to beat your (and other players) high score records, and since there are over 30 stages in total in the game. It will take a lot of effort on your behalf to reach the “real” The Cup Of Eternity. So you will get a lot of gameplay value for your money, especially since you can create your own levels via the “InfiniTrap” custom level editor (that should keep you occupied for quite a few days for sure).

So if you feel like playing a hardcore action/adventure/platform version of “Indiana Jones”. Then you should give “InfiniTrap: Ohio Jack and The Cup Of Eternity” a go for sure. Here´s a free pro-tip though. Make sure to breathe through your anger, so that your head won´t explode during the harder levels.

– The controls have a life of its own
– Not everyone will appreciate the high difficulty
– The time limit will make your blood boil

Verdict: 3/5
InfiniTrap:InfiniTrap” is far from perfect. And you will get angry and frustrated while playing (for better or worse). As some stages will kill you off over and over again until you rage quit. InfiniTrap is still worth a try though, because “InfiniTrap” offers one hell of a challenge for hardcore Gamers.
