Soccer has always been a huge part of my life. And it´s mainly because I found a liking to the sport at a very young age (I was about 3-4 years old at the time). So it didn´t take long before I realized that the world of soccer could be found in the world of Gaming as well. And my very first Soccer game was actually “World Soccer” for the SEGA Master System. Sure, it´s not the best of soccer game there is. However, it sparked my hunger for Soccer games. Besides, just a couple of years later I got a chance to play “Nintendo World Cup” and “Sensible Soccer“. And those games turned me into a hardcore Soccer fan (I joined a Swedish Soccer team. I watched Soccer on TV and I played Soccer games like there was no tomorrow).

kopanito all-stars soccer super goalkeeper

You can knock-out your opponents goalkeeper, but so can they.

And I´ll have you know that I still love “Sensible Soccer” and “Nintendo World Cup” to this very day. So I got quite excited when I heard about Merixgames “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer “, since the game is influenced by two of my favorite childhood soccer games. Well, I wouldn´t be disappointed, because as soon as I booted up Kopanito. I soon realized that the game is pretty much a modern twist of “Nintendo World Cup” and “Sensible Soccer” (I also felt some “International Super Star Soccer Deluxe” vibes while playing”).

That´s very nice indeed. However, “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer” does suffer from some flaws. For example, I got quite annoyed over the fact that there is no in-game soccer field map (you have no idea where your teammates are until you see them face-to-face). And the controls are pretty stiff too (think old school “International Soccer”, and you know what I mean). Other than that, the computer A.i is rather unbalanced. Because in one soccer match, the A.i can be as stupid as one could be. And in another match, it´s like you´re up against a team of Allstar players. And since there are no overall scores for teams or players (like in the Fifa games, for example). You really have no idea how good (or bad) your opponents team are (or your own team for that matter).

kopanito all stars soccer super shoot

Your goalkeeper doesn´t stand a chance in hell against the super shoots. In fact, your only chance to stop the shoot is to block the ball with your own teammates (if the shoot gets slowed down just enough, then your goalkeeper can stop the ball).

And this is something, which creates frustration. As your own NPC teammates tends to be less talented than the computer A.i. Well, let´s just say that I´m glad that there are no rules in “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer” (yes, there are no cards, off-sides and so on). Because I tend to take out my anger on the other teams players when things don’t go my way (I have always been like that). You see. You can tackle people as much as you like in “Kopanito”. However, keep in mind that if you´re being ultra aggressive towards the computer A.i. Then the A.i opponent will be hostile towards you.

kopanito all-stars soccer super stadiums

There are plenty of different achievements, stadiums, balls and game modes in “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer”.

And just like in “Nintendo World Cup”, “Kopanito Soccer” offers a handful of super moves (super shoots, teleporting and much more). And that could either make or break a game for you (depending on how you use your special move Vs what special move your opponent has at his or her disposal). Nevertheless, the super moves adds another layer of “this is freaking fun!” to “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer”.

So, all in all (despite the flaws that I mentioned earlier).”Kopanito” is a really fun soccer game that offers tons of in-game content, in the shape of different game modes and achievements to unlock. And there is even an online high score board as well (yes, you can also play against other players online. You better be darn good though, since you will be publicly shamed online if you suck). That´s great of course. Even so, I still hope that Merixgames will reflect over the flaws that I have pointed out.

Nevertheless, “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer” is still a really good soccer game. And I´m quite sure that people that doesn´t even enjoy Soccer could enjoy the game as well.

Pros:
+ Tons of achievements and gameplay modes
+ Fun to play online and offline
+ “Nintendo World Cup” and “Sensible Soccer”
+ The crazy super-moves

Cons:
– The controls are very stiff
– No in-game soccer field map
– The supporter fans are silent as the grave
– Each team should have their own special attacks and skills imo
– The A.i uses the same tactics over and over again

Gameplay: 4/5
Graphics: 4/5
Sound/Music: 3/5
Controls: 3.5/5
Replay value: 4/5

tgg grade 4 out of 5

Verdict: 4/5
If you enjoyed soccer games such as  “Nintendo World Cup” and “Sensible Soccer”. Then you´re going to love Merixgames “Kopanito All-Stars Soccer” with no doubt.
