Even though we (TGG) are no strangers to playing, writing and reviewing lewd games and whatnot. I’m still somewhat of a virgin when it comes to writing reviews for lewd games (I can’t even remember the last time I made a review for a lewd game). In the matter of fact, I think my “Quantum Suicide” PC preview would be the latest post of the kind that I made, and I/we published that PC preview back in 2016.
Well, I think you get the idea. So starting today, I’m going to improve myself by creating more lewd reviews =) That’s also why I decided to revisit Winged Cloud’s lewd +18 yuri visual novel “Sakura Gamer” (I haven’t played “Sakura Gamer” since its release in October last year). Good thing that, because the game really deserves to get its own review by us. Well, right off the bat, just the plot and background story alone makes “Sakura Gamer” worthy of your time.
You see, in “Sakura Gamer” you get the great pleasure to follow the antisocial geek/gamer Nekohime (her real-name is Sayo) through her biggest adventure yet (don’t worry. I’m not going to spoil anything). Well, long story short, Nekohime is anything but happy with her current job as a computer repair technician/IT-support person (it’s a very stressful and depressing job on so many levels...I have had those occupations in the past. So I know what it’s like).
So Nekohime is pretty much just hanging in there while trying to a better job for herself. Well, Nekohime’s prayers got heard in a way, because one sunny day (out of nowhere) a very sexy girl in the shape of Suki show’s up at Nekohime’s door (Suki is an arch nemesis of sorts for Nekohime). Fast forwarding the story, Suki has run away from home (she left her shrine job because she couldn’t stand, and she’s pretty much begging Nekohime to let her stay at her place.
Nekohime was very much against this idea at first, but since Clover is already living there with her, Clover managed to convince Nekohime that it would be a good idea to let Suki live with them (Clover more or less just played it off as “One more girl in our house hold couldn’t possibly hurt, because we got plenty of empty rooms“). Good call, because Suki (she’s a very attractive vixen-like girl who flirts with everyone) really got the ball rolling in “Sakura Gamer”.
Well, without spoiling to much of that plot and everything that goes with it. After a lot of nagging and begging Suki (with a little help of Clover) managed to convince Nekohime to put her computer repair technician job on hold in favor of the idea of making a lewd yuri visual novel together with Suki and Clover, and that’s also when all the real fun starts. As you (the player) get to experience what it’s like to develop a lewd visual novel, and while you’re doing that, you get to see a whole lot of lewd content.
So unlike what some of you might think. I actually didn’t know what to expect the first time I played “Sakura Gamer” (how lewd the game would be). So it was a pretty unique experience for me to have that somewhat innocent plot build-up, and then watch how it slowly but steadily getting turned into a hardcore lewd Yuri visual novel. It’s also equally impressive that Sakura Gamer’s story manages to remain interesting throughout the game, because you really do want to know what’s going to happen next (for example, will Suki, Clover and Nekohime be able to finish their lewd Yuri visual novel on time?).
So, all in all, I have to say that “Sakura Gamer” is a really great lewd visual novel. As for cons, the game has very few down sides. You know, now that I think about it. The only thing that really bothered me a bit, would be the fact that “Sakura Gamer” ends when the game is just about to hit the next level lewd awesomeness. Other than that though, I had a real blast with the game. In other words, if you enjoy lewd visual novels, then you’re going to love “Sakura Gamer” for sure!
Pros:
+ Top quality lewd content
+ Top notch art, designs and visuals
+ Finally a game where the yuri moments doesn’t suck
+ Well-made characters, dialogs and dialog options
+ The music is rather catchy
+ A very interesting plot and a handful of plot twists
+ Different endings
+ The Sakura Gamer ladies are very cute and sexy
Cons:
– The game ends just when things start to heat up
– Sakura Gamer might not be your cup of tea if you don’t like Yuri content (shame on you!)
– Some players might find some parts of the game to be too slow (too much text, too little action)
Gameplay: 4/5
Graphics: 5/5
Sound/music: 4/5
Controls: 4/5
Replay value: 4/5
Verdict: 4.5/5
I honestly never thought that I would ever feel this way about a lewd visual novel, but “Sakura Gamer” really turned me into a huge fan of lewd visual novels. The game actually managed to pull off (no lewd pun intended) just about everything there is that makes a lewd visual novel great. I mean, the game offers great visuals, music, characters, an interesting plot, funny and sexy dialogs, tons of fanservice and three very hot and colorful ladies for you to play with. So, all in all, “Sakura Gamer” is a must play for those who enjoy lewd visual novels (especially of the yuri kind).
