I have now spent over four hours on Benitosub and Cyangmou´s 16-bit twin-stick shooter “Tower 57.” So I think it´s time for me to write-up an “first impression’ article about ‘Tower 57.” So here we go! Well, for starter the game looks bloody brilliant (16-bit art perfection to the bone!). And Benitosub sure didn´t joke when he stated that “Tower 57” was like the love child of “Alien Breed” and “The Chaos Engine.” Because that´s exactly the kind of vibes that I felt while playing the game (I also thought of an old PS1 action game called “Loaded,” due to the crazy character gallery in “Tower 57”).

tower 57 hero

There will be five playable heroes in total in the final version of “Tower 57.”

And due to the fact that the final product of “Tower 57” will offer five playable characters in-total (right now, you can play as Don, the beggar and the diplomat), you will have plenty of reasons to replay the game at least five times. As each and every character offers a unique gameplay experience. I´m also rather curios to find out how well the final version of the co-op option will work (online and via LAN). As the co-op mode is said to be one of the most crucial parts of “Tower 57”.

tower 57 explosion

You can destroy pretty much everything in “Tower 57”.

Besides that, I really love the fact that you can destroy pretty much everything in “Tower 57.”. I´m not even joking either. As you can blow up cars, bathrooms, offices, walls and much more! So even though I played a very early alpha build of “Tower 57”, I am more than impressed with what I saw and experienced. As I saw and felt a lot of potential in “Tower 57”. And I bet that´s what Markus “Notch” Persson felt as well, as he has backed the game on Kickstarter.

tower 57 firestarter

Yep, you can send stuff on fire in “Tower 57” as well. Firestarter!

I should also add that I really enjoyed the feel of all the available weapons in the early build of “Tower 57.” As the majority of the guns had a truly satisfying feeling to them (sound effects, looks and the destruction that they cause). And the controls are smooth and really easy to learn as well (keyboard and mouse in my case), as for the enemies, bosses, traps and such. In the early build of “Tower 57” there are quite a lot of traps, and most of the enemies that I faced were small spider-like robots. But, yeah. I would love to face other enemies in “Tower 57” for sure.

However, my overall first look and impression of the game are a very positive one. You don´t have to take my word on it though, just check out our gameplay video of “Tower 57” down below instead 😉
