There´s quite a few zombie fans out there that´s waiting eagerly for Yager Development´s (nope, Techland is not involved with DI2) “Dead Island 2”. But there´s also a lot of doubts in the air.
As Yager has developed ZERO zombie (horror) games in the past. In fact, most of Yager´s games has been either combat flight simulators or FPS action games.
So i honestly don´t even know why Deep Silver let Yager handle “Dead Island 2”. Or more so, WHY Techland won´t be involved in “Dead Island 2” at all? Sure, Techland is developing “Dying Light” instead (which is set for a release on January 30th).
But still, it makes no sense to me at all.
Then again, just at Capcom and what they did with the “Dead Rising” franchise. “Dead Rising 2” was developed by Blue Castle Games (a dev that has made mostly Baseball games in the past).
I´m not saying that you shouldn´t give outside studios (devs) a fair chance. But you should be rather picky when it comes to well-known and loved IP´s such as “Dead Island”.
It´s a real wildcard (and gamble) to place a lot of faith (and trust) in a studio that has developed ZERO horror games in the past. So imo, “Dead Island” feels like a 50/50 kind of deal to me.
But just like always, It´s ALL about gameplay videos. And so far “Dead Island 2” still has a lot to prove. And due to the fact that the game is set for a Q2 release this year (April?`).
The hype is on, but so is the pressure. So will Yager Development make, or break “Dead Island 2”?
About Dead island 2:
Several months after the events on Banoi, the United States military has put the Golden State under full quarantine. Now a restricted zone, California has become a bloody paradise for those who refuse to leave their homes and an action-packed playground for renegades who seek adventure, glory and a fresh start.
Combining the classic Dead Island elements of immersive close combat, action and role-playing, Dead Island 2 features crazy, never-before-seen handcrafted weapons and over-the-top characters in taking players from the iconic Golden Gate to the celebrated beachfront boardwalk of southern California’s Venice Beach.
