Swating is nothing new to the world of Gaming (you do remember the case with Koopatroopa787 right?). But i sure don´t remember the last time i heard that someone received a visit by the FBI, because of death threats over internet?.
But that´s exactly what happend to the Youtube personality “Mrrepzion“. As he was targeted as the one sending death threats to Anita Sarkeesian (the bomb threat at Utah State University back in October last year).
That´s of course terrible (the part about the bomb threat, and the fact that “Mrrepzion” got blamed for it). But here´s the thing, “Mrrepzion” never sent any death threats to Anita Sarkeesian.
“How do you know that?” You might ask yourself right now. Well, because of two reasons. 1. The mail was signed with Mrrepzion and #GamerGate at the end of the mail to Anita Sarkeesian (why would Mrrepzion mention his own name in a death threat mail? And why would he add the #GamerGate tag to the mail?).
And 2. Mrrepzion asked the FBI if they wanted to check his hard drives after evidence (to prove his innocence). A guilty person would NEVER hand over their hard drives (and what not) to FBI, IF they had committed a crime.
So it´s pretty darn obvious that someone set “Mrrepzion” up. The question remains however, WHO mailed the death threat to Anita Sarkeesian? And WHY did they sign the mail with the #GamerGate tag and “Mrrepzion´s” name?
Everyone’s free to speculate freely on this. But i think it´s safe to say that the person who did this. Is neither a fan of “Mrrepzion” nor #GamerGate.
