I was just informed that Andrade Games (the brilliant master mind behind “SturmFront: The Mutant War“) has released a brand-new game. And it´s an fast-paced bullet hell WW1 shmup called “1917: The Alien Invasion“. And even though I have played plenty of shoot-em-up games in the past, I still have to say that “1917” is a very different kind of shmup experience. Because not only does the game takes place during the first world war (in an alternative timeline). You also have to take care of some hostile alien forces with all kinds of super weapons (all of which are mounted onto a WW1 fighter airplane).
Sure, even though the story might not win any grammys (the again, since when did people ever care about the plot in a shoot-em-up game?). I still have to say that you get quite a lot of value for your money as well (“1917: The Alien Invasion” cost about 5 Euros via Steam at the moment):
Features:
– Fight from Verdun to the heart of the alien world!
– Majestic and extravagant pixel art inspired by the golden age of arcades.
– Accessible with a fair difficulty curve.
– Intense action and highly polished gameplay
– 5 stages with huge boss encounters.
– Bloodshed and gore.
– Psychedelic soundtrack.
– Full Xbox controller support.
– Digital art book (PDF).
However, “1917” are just available for Windows. Well, at least for now. Even so, Andrade Games do have plans to release “1917” for MAC and Linux sometime in the future as well. So please be patient my dear MAC and Linux Gamers, because you will be able to play “1917” soon enough too.
I would also like to point out that even though “1917” only offer five stages (for now), you´re still going to come back for more. As the game is really fun to play. Don´t get fooled by all the beautiful colors and backgrounds though, because there are plenty of horrors and enemies to be found in the world of “1917” (not to mention big and aggressive bosses). Even so, I still have to say that the difficulty curve is a rather fair one (unlike most of the old-school shmup´s, how killed you off in seconds).
And in my opinion, “1917” looks and feels like a mix of “Raiden”, “Thunder Force III“, “R-Type III: The Third Lightning” and “Super SWIV” (all of which just happens to be games that I really enjoy). Well, I don´t know about you, but that´s more than enough to catch my attention. As I loved those shoot-em-up games to bits when I was a kid. So if you´re into epic old-school shmup´s, then look no further than Andrade Games “1917: The Alien Invasion”! And you don´t even have to take my word for it either, just check out what other people have said about the game on Steam (shoot-em-up fans LOVE “1917”).
So, game on people! 😉
